Safari-Style 1980 Porsche 911SC Heads to Auction

Okay, so there’s this really cool, jacked-up 1980 Porsche 911SC up for grabs on Bring a Trailer.

Someone went all-out turning this classic into an off-road beast, giving it that awesome Safari vibe.

It’s rocking a rebuilt 3.4-litre flat-six engine and is being sold by a BaT Local Partner in Arizona, with a clean California title.

Originally, this was just your average 911SC coupe. But, before the current owner got their hands on it, someone swapped in that 3.4L twin-plug flat-six.

That engine’s got some serious goodies inside, like 98mm JE pistons, a 964 oil pump, a 993 distributor, and a Cyntex performance chip.

Both the engine and the Type 915 five-speed manual gearbox were rebuilt back in 2020.

Then, in 2025, TRE Automotive in Van Nuys did some top-end work to fix any leaks. And yes, it still sends all that power to the rear wheels, just like Porsche intended.

Looks-wise, it’s hard to miss that bright blue paint job – it’s Audi Nogaro Blue. They even got rid of the sunroof for a cleaner look.

But the transformation really took off after the current owner bought it on BaT in November 2022. That’s when the Safari-style upgrades started rolling in.

We’re talking 17-inch white RUF Speedline wheels wrapped in Falken Wildpeak A/T Trail tires, Motion Control Suspension dampers, 928 GTS brake calipers, skid plates, mudflaps, and a set of bright PIAA auxiliary lights.

To complete the rally-inspired style, it has a perforated rear bumper and a whale-tail spoiler .

The inside has been updated too, with BRIDE bucket seats to hold you tight, a Kachel Motorsports roll bar for safety, and a WEVO shifter for more precise gear changes.

The rear seats? Gone to make room for activities. The odometer says it’s got 149,000 miles on it, though the actual total mileage is unknown.

It did pass a California smog check back in December 2025, but just a heads up, the engine swap hasn’t been inspected by the California Bureau of Automotive Repair.

If you’re over in the UK and keeping an eye on the US car market, this Porsche is a fantastic example of how the classic air-cooled 911 scene is still changing and getting wilder.

And right now, it is being auctioned on Bring a Trailer.
