Xpeng Land Aircraft Carrier targets 2026 debut

Traffic jams could soon have a vertical escape route. The Xpeng Land Aircraft Carrier is edging towards production, pairing a six-wheeled electric van with a deployable passenger drone—and more than 7,000 buyers have already placed orders.

Designed as a range-extended EV, the van claims up to 600 miles of driving range and features coach-style rear doors with seating for four. The headline act, though, lives in the rear cargo bay.

Developed by Xpeng’s aviation subsidiary Aridge, the folding six-rotor aircraft can autonomously take off and land, or be flown manually, before returning to the van to recharge in a sealed compartment.

One-touch deployment is promised, with pre-production models already under development ahead of a planned late-2026 launch.

Xpeng’s European leadership has confirmed the factory is prepared for series production, underlining that this is more than a motor show fantasy.

The firm’s CEO has reportedly instructed senior management to learn to fly the aircraft themselves, signalling how seriously the project is being taken.

A longer-range tilt-rotor variant is also said to be in development.

Regulatory approval remains the major hurdle, particularly if Xpeng intends to export beyond China.

The brand already sells electric cars in parts of Europe, but questions around pilot licensing, drone operator rules and airspace certification will shape whether this 2026 mobility solution ever reaches UK shores.

Even so, the blend of electric van practicality and personal eVTOL capability feels closer to reality than the flying cars once promised for the new millennium.
