BMW Alpina has shown its forthcoming V8 luxury saloon testing beyond 186mph at Nardò in Italy.
The camouflaged car offers an early look at a model being developed around fast, comfortable long-distance driving.
BMW’s latest announcement includes footage of the car passing 300km/h, equivalent to approximately 186mph. That demonstrates its performance during testing; it doesn’t establish the finished car’s ultimate top speed.
V8 power with a calmer character

The 7 Series-based saloon was previously discussed in Top Gear’s interview with Alpina vice president Oliver Viellechner. The publication reported that it would use a non-hybrid V8, with a version of BMW’s 4.4-litre engine considered likely.
The latest BMW release confirms V8 power without specifying capacity. Engine software and accelerator calibration are intended to deliver strong, smooth responses, while the gearbox has been adapted for the increased output and higher maximum engine speeds.
That gives the development work a clear theme. Acceleration matters, but so does how much effort the car appears to demand from its driver.
“What matters is how natural, stable and confident it feels to drive at that speed,” Viellechner said.
Familiar wheels, specially developed tyres

The prototype wears Alpina’s recognisable 20-spoke alloy wheels, developed alongside tyres with an additional foam layer. BMW says the combination supports high-speed capability, precision and ride comfort.
Suspension tuning and aerodynamic changes form part of the package, while four oval exhaust outlets retain another familiar Alpina detail.
Together, those choices explain the brand’s emphasis on speed and comfort. The ambition is a luxury saloon that remains composed as its pace increases; whether it delivers will need a proper road test.
BMW’s announcement leaves power, torque, final maximum speed and UK pricing unspecified. For now, the camouflage stays on and the full specification remains to come.
