Jeep’s V8 Scrambler Concept Is the First Wrangler With Independent Front Suspension

Jeep has brought back the Scrambler name for a two-door Wrangler pickup concept powered by a 6.4-litre HEMI V8.

The Wrangler Scrambler SRT Concept debuted at SEMA 2026 in Las Vegas, and its biggest change is tucked behind the front wheels. It’s the first Wrangler with independent front suspension.

Why Jeep changed the Wrangler’s front suspension

A regular Wrangler uses a solid front axle, which connects the two front wheels. On the Scrambler, each front wheel can move up and down independently.

Hit a rut on one side at speed and the wheel on the other side can follow its own patch of ground.

Jeep says the aim is better wheel control and more precise steering over rough terrain.

SRT developed the front setup with off-road racing champion Casey Currie.

At the back, it kept a solid axle inspired by trophy trucks, the purpose-built pickups used in desert racing.

The concept rides on 17-inch wheels with 37-inch off-road tyres.

The HEMI makes 470bhp and 470lb ft of torque according to Top Gear. Those are big numbers, but the suspension tells you more about what Jeep was trying to build.

Keeping the front wheels settled over a series of ruts matters as much as having the power to get up to speed in the first place.

The body takes its cues from the CJ-8 Scrambler, Jeep’s two-door pickup from the 1980s.

SRT gave the modern Wrangler longer doors, wider wheelarches and a pickup bed with its own tailgate. There’s a structural roll cage, too, and a pointed front end Jeep calls the Sharknose.

The clever bit is the pair of rear jump seats. You can turn them around to face backwards or lift them out to make room for gear.

On a show truck with a bright orange body and a big V8, it’s a surprisingly practical idea.

Jeep revealed the Scrambler as a concept and gave no production timeline.

The part worth watching is the front suspension. Even if the pickup stays a show build, the way SRT has set it up gives Jeep a starting point for a Wrangler built around faster off-road driving.
