iCAUR V27: New Defender-Rivalling SUV Coming to UK in 2027

Chinese car manufacturer Chery is preparing to introduce another SUV to the British market, with the rugged-looking iCAUR V27 confirmed for a UK arrival in early 2027. Featuring a boxy design reminiscent of the Land Rover Defender, the new electrified five-seater will expand Chery’s growing presence in Britain.

The V27 will be sold under iCAUR, another brand belonging to Chinese automotive giant Chery Automobile. The company already has several names associated with its expanding international operations, including Omoda, Jaecoo and Lepas. With the arrival of iCAUR, British buyers will have another Chinese automotive brand to consider, this time with a strong emphasis on traditional SUV styling.

Visually, the iCAUR V27 makes little attempt to disguise its off-road-inspired character. Its upright proportions, squared-off bodywork and substantial stance give it a distinctly utilitarian appearance, drawing obvious comparisons with the Defender. Despite its rugged design, the V27 is configured to accommodate five occupants, making it a potential alternative for motorists seeking a practical family SUV with a more adventurous appearance.

Although Chery has confirmed that the UK-bound model will feature an advanced electrified powertrain, the exact British specification remains unannounced.

Versions already available in overseas markets use a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine as a range extender, supported by an electric drive system. Buyers in those markets can choose between a single-motor rear-wheel-drive configuration and a dual-motor all-wheel-drive version. Whether either arrangement will be offered in Britain has yet to be confirmed.

One particularly relevant detail for UK motorists is the vehicle’s planned development programme. According to iCAUR, the V27 will undergo market-specific refinement at Chery’s new research and development facility at Millbrook in Bedfordshire. The company intends to tailor the SUV for British roads, an important consideration given the country’s varied surfaces, driving conditions and often challenging road quality.

Pricing remains another unanswered question. Chery has not announced how much the iCAUR V27 will cost in Britain, nor has it confirmed the final equipment levels or powertrain options for UK customers. With an early 2027 arrival planned, further details about the new SUV’s specification, availability and pricing are still to follow.
