1986 Porsche 911 Carrera Targa Listed on Bring a Trailer

The classic air-cooled 911s always have fans, and this 1986 Porsche 911 Carrera Targa is up for auction on Bring a Trailer, waiting for a new home.

This 911, with its open roof and special paint job, mixes the cool style of the eighties with the simple mechanics that have made these cars favorites.

This Carrera came from the factory in Nutmeg Brown Metallic (code 492), with beige leather inside and power-adjustable sport seats in the front.

It has the classic air-cooled setup: a 3.2-liter flat-six engine in the back that powers the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transaxle.

Back when it was new, the engine had 202 horsepower and 185 lb-ft of torque, which was a good amount for the time.

It gives that fun, mechanical driving feeling that makes the 3.2-generation 911 so liked by those who love the original feel.

The outside still has the original details. It has spoilers on the front and back, fog lights, and the signature removable black Targa roof panel.

This lets you drive with the roof open but keeps the classic 911 look.

It has 16-inch BBS wheels with gold centers and Continental ExtremeContact tires that were put on in 2024.

Disc brakes on all four wheels help it stop.

The inside is mostly original, with a few changes. The sport seats are covered in beige leather, and there are Carrera floor mats.

An Alpine stereo and sound processor are added, hooked up to audio equipment in the trunk and rear speakers where the back seats would be.

The steering wheel is redone in brown leather and it has the traditional VDO gauges.

This car has been enjoyed, and it shows.

The seller points out some dents on the driver’s door, a crack in the fog-light lens, and some damage to the front spoiler.

Inside, the dashboard is a bit warped, and the cruise control sometimes works. The odometer says 96,000 miles, but it’s not working, so the total mileage is unknown.

The current owner added about 1,000 miles after buying it in 2024. Before that, it was registered in Arizona, Idaho, and Utah.

Last year, it got new spark plugs and a battery, but the seller says there’s a small oil leak.

It comes with a clean Carfax report and a Utah title.

The imperfections add to the car’s story.

Many fans would rather have a well-used air-cooled 911 with character than a perfect show car.

This Carrera Targa seems ready for the next owner to enjoy it just as Porsche intended.
