11k-Mile 1993 Mercedes-Benz 500SL V8 Heads to Auction

A remarkably low-mileage 1993 Mercedes-Benz 500SL has appeared for sale on Bring a Trailer, offering collectors the chance to acquire a V8-powered example of the German manufacturer’s celebrated R129 roadster.

Finished in Signal Red with a beige leather interior, this particular Mercedes has covered just 11,000 miles in more than three decades. Its combination of low mileage, classic styling and naturally aspirated V8 power makes it an interesting prospect for enthusiasts.

Currently offered through a dealer in Arizona, the 500SL was previously purchased on Bring a Trailer in July 2025. It is now being sold on consignment with a clean Carfax history report and a clean New Jersey title.

Power comes from Mercedes-Benz’s naturally aspirated 5.0-litre M119 V8, which produced 315bhp and 347lb ft of torque when new. A four-speed automatic gearbox delivers power to the rear wheels, giving the roadster the relaxed, effortless character expected of a luxury grand tourer.

The seller reports that the engine oil has been changed in preparation for the sale and that the wiring harness has previously been replaced. The latter is a particularly relevant detail for anyone considering an early-1990s Mercedes-Benz.

The exterior retains its factory Signal Red paintwork, identified by Mercedes-Benz colour code 568, alongside a contrasting black folding fabric roof. Traditional R129 features include headlamp wipers and integrated fog lights.

A set of 18-inch monoblock-style alloy wheels gives the roadster a more purposeful appearance. These are fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport All Season tyres carrying 2025 production codes, while four-wheel disc brakes and ABS provide stopping power.

Inside, the 500SL showcases the luxury equipment associated with Mercedes-Benz during the early 1990s. Beige leather upholstery is complemented by burl wood trim, electrically adjustable seats with memory functions and a deployable roll bar.

Period technology is another highlight. The cabin features a Mercedes-Benz-branded carphone, a Sonaradar K40 radar detector and a cassette stereo connected to a boot-mounted CD changer. Together, these details provide a reminder of what high-end automotive technology looked like more than 30 years ago.

Ahead of the driver sits a leather-wrapped four-spoke steering wheel and a traditional analogue instrument cluster. The dashboard includes a 160mph speedometer, a tachometer marked to 7,000rpm and gauges displaying oil pressure, coolant temperature, fuel consumption and fuel level.

The six-digit odometer indicates approximately 11,000 miles, an unusually low figure for a car of this age. Nevertheless, prospective buyers should still examine its service history and mechanical condition, particularly given the potential effects of extended periods of limited use.

For collectors seeking a classic Mercedes-Benz with V8 performance and unmistakable 1990s character, this Signal Red 500SL offers an appealing combination of specification, presentation and low recorded mileage.
