Brabus has become one of the most recognisable names in high-performance luxury cars.
Founded in Germany in 1977, the company built its reputation transforming Mercedes-Benz models into more powerful, exclusive machines before expanding to other prestigious manufacturers.
The Brabus story began with Bodo Buschmann, who worked at his family’s Mercedes-Benz dealership, Auto Buschmann KG, during the early 1970s.
While studying law and business administration, he recognised that customers wanted more performance and personalisation than standard factory models offered.

In 1977, Buschmann founded Brabus alongside his friend Klaus Brackmann. The partnership was short-lived, leaving Buschmann in control of a business dedicated to improving Mercedes-Benz engines, handling and interior luxury.
By 1983, Brabus had established its own headquarters and developed the Mercedes-Benz 190 E V8. The ambitious conversion involved installing a 5.0-litre V8 from the S-Class, alongside substantial chassis and braking upgrades.
Brabus also pioneered luxury interior modifications, fitting televisions and telephones into Mercedes models long before such technology became commonplace.

Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, its creations became increasingly extreme. Highlights included V12-powered E-Class saloons, C-Class models with 6.0-litre V8 engines and Mercedes ML SUVs equipped with enormous 7.3-litre V12 powerplants.
An official partnership with Smart during the early 2000s introduced Brabus to a wider audience. However, the company continued developing outrageous Mercedes saloons, SUVs and even modified Unimogs.
Today, Brabus has expanded well beyond Mercedes-Benz. By 2026, its portfolio includes customised vehicles from Porsche, Lamborghini, Bentley, Range Rover and Rolls-Royce, alongside its own Bodo model.
Nearly 50 years after its foundation, Brabus remains associated with extraordinary performance, bespoke luxury and unmistakable styling.
What started as a specialist Mercedes tuning business has become an internationally recognised automotive brand.
