Audacious Quattro V8 Restomod Brings 600bhp Revival

A fresh take on the Audi Quattro is quietly taking shape in the UK, swapping its famous five-cylinder engine for a supercharged V8 under the hood.

This creation comes from British start-up Audacious Automotive, blending rally-inspired styling with the mechanical guts of a mid-2000s performance car.

Behind this project is Mac Zaglewski, a sculptor and restorer who sees the car as a continuation of the Quattro’s legacy rather than a traditional restomod.

Beneath its updated exterior lies the chassis, electronics, and 4.2-litre V8 engine borrowed from the 2006 B7-generation Audi RS4.

This choice significantly shapes the car’s character, favoring a rear-biased quattro system equipped with a Torsen differential and a manual gearbox—elements Zaglewski insists are crucial for a genuinely engaging, analogue driving feel.

More recent models like the RS3 were dismissed because their front-biased all-wheel drive and automatic transmissions would stray too far from this intent.

While outright performance might not be the headline, the numbers tell a compelling story.

The supercharger boosts power from the RS4’s standard 414bhp to over 600bhp, and the vehicle sheds an estimated 250kg, promising quicker acceleration and sharper handling.

The bespoke bodywork for the initial car was crafted from steel and aluminium but is expected to switch to carbon fibre for wider production.

Its design takes clear cues from the compact S1 Quattro of Group B fame, with every vent and intake thoughtfully integrated for real function, not just style.

Fitting this combination together has meant rethinking proportions. The original Quattro’s shorter frame contrasts with the more elongated RS4 donor, requiring significant adjustments to structural points like the windscreen position and mounting brackets.

Each build will be tailor-made, allowing customers to choose subtle styling tweaks while staying true to the core platform.

Inside, the cabin is set for a total refresh, featuring billet aluminium controls and a more tactile, driver-focused arrangement.

With prices starting around £350,000 before taxes and excluding donor vehicles, this project clearly targets a bespoke market.

Zaglewski emphasizes that the goal isn’t to strip apart pristine classics but rather to breathe new life into those cars that would otherwise face prohibitively expensive restorations.

In doing so, the Audacious Quattro offers an opportunity to preserve and reimagine neglected examples, combining contemporary engineering with a distinctly analogue spirit.

For enthusiasts in the UK, the proposition is appealing—here’s a car that channels the heart of a rally legend while bringing the performance and practicality of a much newer machine.

In a time when vehicles increasingly depend on digital controls and electrification, the Audacious Quattro V8’s dedication to mechanical purity stands out as its most compelling feature.
